Shhh... the Garden is Growing!

We have carrots, beets, onions and sugar snap peas, and it looks like if things go well, we will have a real harvest of tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins and butternut squash. The garden that actually thrives is a first for me, I'm already making plans for next year.

The Graduate (of preschool)

That's right, he graduated. Final progress report stated that "Edward has great verbal skills." and "He likes to run and climb." It said some other good stuff, too... but those made me laugh. I'm super proud of him, and stunned that Kindergarten is right around the corner.

And here's a little peek at our backyard garden. I'm trying Square Foot Gardening. So far, I've skipped a few important steps (soil composition), so I'm not sure how it's going to go. I am, however, incredibly blessed to have a husband so patient with our weekly trips to the garden center to just pick "just a few things" (read- pounds of manure, compost, potting soil, potted plants and piles of seed packets). I know that it would be a lot more economical to just frequent the Farmers' Markets, but it's just so fun to watch things grow.  Little boys and fledgling gardens!

Summer is Coming

This sticky-back foam stuff is a little too newfangled for me, but I read that it's good for coordinating little fingers.




Pudding paint.
1. Make vanilla pudding.
2. Divide into little bowls.
3. Add 2 drops of food coloring, stir- add more food coloring as desired.
4. Spoon onto "palettes" add leftover-from-breakfast pancake as paintbrush (or pudding to mouth vehicle)
5. Paint onto glossy finger paint paper- or big, white plate, or some other non-toxic, non-absorbent surface (directly on the table of you don't mind the mess.
6. Did I just teach them to eat paint?

Thank goodness! for the interludes of sunshine.
And for the long awaited checking out of the garden- my how it has grown! We spent a good part of the morning moving some earth, discovering many a happy earthworm, discussing the importance of worm and cow (or horse) poop in the garden. And the proper nomenclature for said poop. Always fun to know a lot of words for poop, right?
I love so much that they love so much keeping track of the growth in the field journals. Collin drew an awesome picture of the garden, complete with roots, but then Edward drew a "cloud" right in the middle of it.


And Iliana is still drawing her manatees.


Ahhh.... coffee, new book and lists! Happy girl!
